Most fence companies order panels and put them in the ground. Cook's runs one of Oklahoma's most complete ornamental iron shops, so the gate on your drive can be drawn to your opening instead of picked from a catalogue.
What we can do to a bar of steel
Weld, bend, roll, hammer, forge, punch, shear, press.
That is the list from our own shop floor, and it is the reason a Cook's gate does not look like the one down the street. We use old-world iron techniques alongside modern machinery, we detail custom work in AutoCAD, and we make hand-forged wrought iron when the drawing calls for it.
When a prefabricated fence is genuinely the better answer, we say so. We are a preferred Ameristar contractor and we install their Montage line as readily as we build from scratch.

Bar stock comes in the door and leaves as a gate. Our employees have over 175 years of combined service between them, and most of what leaves here was drawn before it was cut.

Every curl in this gate was formed in our shop. Old world technique, modern machinery behind it, and an anvil still doing real work in the corner.

Four owners, one trade
A welding instructor came home from the war and started a fence company.
1949
Dick O. Cook founds Cook's Fence & Awning. He had spent the war as a welding instructor in the shipyards of San Diego, and came back to Oklahoma with the trade. Over three decades he built a reputation for honesty, quality workmanship and competitive prices.
1976
Cook retires and sells to Bill Svejkovsky and Frank Swanda, partners of many years in Meridian Sheet Metal. They knew the shop, and they wanted to keep what Cook had built.
1985
David Swanda, who had been hired to manage the company and learned the business working alongside Dick Cook himself, buys it outright. The name changes to Cook's Fence & Iron Co Inc to say plainly what the shop actually does.
Today
Same trade, same city, on SW 21st Street. We honor manufacturers' warranties, we give free estimates on everything, and we offer military discounts. The longer version is here.

That means a gate can be drawn to your opening rather than picked from a catalogue. We also install Ameristar prefabricated fence and gates when that is the better fit, and we will tell you which is which.
Since 1949. Dick O. Cook founded the company as Cook's Fence & Awning after returning to Oklahoma from the war, where he had served as a welding instructor in the shipyards of San Diego. Bill Svejkovsky and Frank Swanda bought it in 1976, and David Swanda, who had learned the business working alongside Dick Cook, purchased it in 1985 and renamed it Cook's Fence & Iron Co Inc. Our current employees have over 175 years of combined service.
Both, and we have done for a long time. Our commercial iron fencing is trusted by the military, Boeing, GE and the University of Oklahoma. On the residential side we build cedar fence, chain link, ornamental iron, drive gates and railings across the Oklahoma City metro.
Because Oklahoma wind and Oklahoma weather are hard on wood posts. Steel posts will not rot, twist, or warp, and they hold a fence line straight through the kind of gusts that push a wood post out of plumb. We build custom cedar on steel posts as our standard, and whitewood on steel posts when you want the more economical option.
Swing, cantilever and rolling gates, and electronic gates with full access control. We can mix and match wood gates with iron gates if you want the privacy of one and the detail of the other. We work with the main operator manufacturers, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain, DoorKing, HySecurity, Linear OSCO and Nice Apollo.
We take ADA compliance seriously and provide railing systems built to help businesses stay compliant, including handrails, guardrails and stairwell railings. We also build fall protection railings, plus interior, exterior, ornamental and decorative railings. All of it is custom made, and you will get a quick turnaround on the quote.
